I love to paint and draw, but it’s so time-intensive to make large pieces, that it’s not a normal activity for me.

Most of the stuff you’ll see below originates from a semester in my senior year of high school, in which I took the Painting and Drawing classes consecutive class periods, and as a result spent a lot of time blending the two classes.

I really love to blend mediums. Each medium has a great use, something it’s especially good at. If I can take the really good things from each medium and combine them all together, maybe I can get something really good in the end. Besides, it’s fun to try. I get bored if I just get to use one medium.

Wish Upon a Mountaintop

This was my first major Oil Painting. It is completely oil paints, though I used Liquin because I was fedup with having to wait for the paint to dry over multiple days, when I wanted to layer and wipe off and stuff. Oh, and I used watercolor techniques (splatter) for the snow.

The image was inspired by a music video for Nemo, by Nightwish, quite probably my favorite band.

The painting was done on a canvas board about 10”x18”. About.

Silence and Serenity (respectively)

These were created as a pair, and originally I intended on making a third, but that has yet to happen. I loved the idea of a tree growing in a gothic cathedral where the alter would be. I adapted the image for simplicity (I had some time constraints) and drew up a few copies with the assistance of a Lightbox. The Left image is mostly charcoal with some pen and ink, graphite, and a little bit of graphite powder. The Right image is mostly watercolor, with a little bit of graphite and charcoal.

Images are each 10”x10”.

Quick Quotes

Every now and then I’ll hear something that really strikes a chord with me….and as I was painting this, I started painting on quotes that I could remember. Most of them are from songs. Background is acrylic on Muslin. Script is acrylic, charcoal, and/or ink. About 12”x12”

I don’t normally do still-lives. But that was the assignment, so I did. Probably good practice, as I plan to be an Industrial Design major. It’s just an old desk-lamp. Acrylic, with the black accents in Charcoal. Then a veneer on top. If you’ve ever tried painting veneer on top of charcoal, you know it smears like crazy, so I had to be careful. My teacher didn’t even think it was possible. I taught her a lot about mixing mediums.

Best guess at 6”x13”
